Boston Beer Co.
The Boston Beer Company is one of America's leading brewers of handcrafted, full-flavored beers. Founder and Brewer, Jim Koch, brews his beers using time-honored, traditional brewing processes, and the world's finest all-natural ingredients. The company's flagship brand, Samuel Adams Boston Lager, is brewed using the same recipe and techniques that Koch's great-great grandfather used in the mid 1800s.
At Angry Orchard they use the ripest apples, harvested by hand, to ensure the highest quality. European apples provide a taste that U.S. domestic apples cannot match. The French bittersweet apples from Normandy provide a complex flavor while contributing tannins - like red wine grapes and a superior mouth-feel that adds tartness. Italian culinary apples from Meran at the foothills of the Northern Alps provide balance and offer a crisp fruitiness to the cider.
www.dogfish.com The story of Dogfish Head began in June of 1995 when founder Sam Calagione opened Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, Delaware’s first brewpub in Rehoboth Beach. Not only was Dogfish Head Delaware’s first brewpub, it was the smallest commercial brewery in America. The one benefit to brewing on such a small system was the ability to try out a myriad of different recipes. The Dogfish Head brewers quickly got bored brewing the same things over and over – that’s when they started adding all sorts of weird ingredients and getting kind of crazy with the beers! The reputation of Dogfish Head ales quickly grew beyond Delaware's borders and they eventually outgrew their distributing brewery. In the summer of 2002 Dogfish Head moved their entire production brewery up the road to Milton, Delaware into a 100,000 square foot converted cannery. Today, Dogfish Head’s brewpub and brewery continue to push the boundaries of craft brewing with the most diverse, innovative and off-centered portfolio of any brewery out there.
http://www.samueladams.com For the first 35 years of his life, Jim Koch's family history and his future career lay in the attic of his parent's house. Jim's father Charles Koch, a fifth generation brewer, had left the business but kept the old family beer archives upstairs in an old trunk. The recipes hadn't been used since the Louis Koch brewery closed during Prohibition and when American tastes went away from full flavored beers.
